Well – would you trust an Airbus?????

Hi fans – almost happy new year.

For those who find the loss of aircraft this last year (S) somewhat disturbing,  I post the following comments.

1. I would rather fly on a Jumbo jet – four engines means plenty of back up – also did you know that the Jumbo can glide – something that almost none of the modern aircraft can do.

2. If you hear about an aircraft crash nowadays – which name do you hear most often? – Seems to me (and I could be wrong) that it is Airbus.

3. Would you trust a pane that was designed and built by the French working with the Germans working with the Italians working with the Spanish working with the British? – me neither!!!!

4. Up to now I like flying Ryan air – because they have a fleet of Boeing 737-800 planes – one of the safest on the planet.  Someone told me yesterday that they were going to buy some Airbuses. Really? ;-(

It is Christmas – and the worst news I have had all year has arived. I have seen the latest Game of Thrones episode.

I am devastated – I have become so hooked on this program that it literally is why I come home in the evenings (welll  not every evening 🙂 )

Bruce Cason – Now I like Christmas – and I love getting Christmas…

Now I like Christmas – and I love getting Christmas cards – you know, those things that arrive in your letterbox in an envelope – with a pretty stamp on it from one of the not so far flung corners or the world.

Well – I think you get my drift. Well anyway :- not only do I like them – but I send out a whole load very year to my aunts and uncles (those that haven’t been collected by the grim reaper yet) and all my cousins – much to their annoyance I am sure – ’cause then they ‘have’ to send one to me!!!!!!

Compound nouns

One of my studetns ccame up with this quiz entry for a compound noun. It was so good I just had to put it on the blog.

Thanks Bianca!!!!

It’s a vegetable which has a relationship with a piece of furniture. It’ s big and lazy. It has not enough fresh air and it is usually alone. Typically it lives in the ground and not in the middle of a lot of pillows….

Its Guy Fawkes night!!!!!History of the Gunpowder Plot

History of the Gunpowder Plot

& Guy Fawkes Night

Four hundred years ago, in 1605, a man called Guy Fawkes and a group of plotters attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London with barrels of gunpowder placed in the basement. They wanted to kill King James and the king’s leaders.

Houses of Parliament, London

Why did Guy Fawkes want to kill King James 1st and the king’s leaders?

When Queen Elizabeth 1st took the throne of England she made some laws against the Roman Catholics. Guy Fawkes was one of a small group of Catholics who felt that the government was treating Roman Catholics unfairly. They hoped that King James 1st would change the laws, but he didn’t.

Catholics had to practise their religion in secret. There were even fines for people who didn’t attend the Protestant church on Sunday or on holy days. James lst passed more laws against the Catholics when he became king.

What happened – the Gungpowder Plot

A group of men led by Robert Catesby, plotted to kill King James and blow up the Houses of Parliament, the place where the laws that governed England were made.

Guy Fawkes was one of a group of men

The plot was simple – the next time Parliament was opened by King James l, they would blow up everyone there with gunpowder. The men bought a house next door to the parliament building. The house had a cellar which went under the parliament building. They planned to put gunpowder under the house and blow up parliament and the king.

Guy Fawkes Discovered

Guy Fawkes was given the job to keep watch over the barrels of gunpowder and to light the fuse. On the morning of 5th November, soldiers discovered Guy hidden in the cellar and arrested him. The trail of gunpowder at his feet would never be lit.

Guy Fawkes was taken to the Tower of London

He was tortured and questioned about the other plotters. To start with he didn’t tell the soldiers anything about the plot. But, eventually he started to tell the truth.

A Celebration

In celebration of his survival, King James ordered that the people of England should have a great bonfire on the night on 5th November.

The event is still commemorated annually in England on 5th November by fireworks and burning ‘guys’ (effigies) on bonfires.

The searching of the cellars of Parliament before the opening of each new session, however, was not introduced until 1678.
